Energy system models make the consequences of political and investment decisions visible before they are taken. The research uses and develops such models to study the coal phase-out in Germany and Europe, the potential of power-to-heat, generation adequacy during periods with little wind and sun (dunkelflaute), and the integration of hydrogen into the wider energy system.
Energy system modelling
Models of European energy systems with high shares of variable renewables, from coal phase-out to dunkelflaute periods.
